On Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, South Africa will host an Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) Symposium, “A Quest for Epistemic Justice: Strengthening Ethical Guidance for Indigenous Knowledge Systems, from Principles to Practice,” as part of its Research Week Programme.
ABS Canada’s Prof. Chidi Oguamanam will deliver the keynote address in his capacity as a Commissioner for the UNESCO Commission on Ethics.
He will speak alongside presenters Prof. Caroline Ncube (University of Cape Town), Mr. Frank Mazibuko (National Research Foundation of South Africa), Ms. Shumi Rodolo (DSTI), Dr. Mayashree Chisamy (DSTI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Indigenous Knowledge Systems), Mrs. Busisiwe Madikizela-Theu (Nelson Mandela University), Ms. Marchelle Davies (Representative of Indigenous Community, Business Services, Arts), and Dr(tr). Gcinashe Vembe (Traditional Health Practitioner, Eastern Cape).
